At your first acupuncture session I will ask you about your symptoms, medical history and details of any other treatments you are having or medications you are taking, as well as about you general health and lifestyle. I will also feel your pulses on both wrists and look at your tongue, these are part of traditional diagnosis and help build a picture of your energetic and physical health. Once appropriate acupuncture points have been selected needles are usually left in place about 20-30 minutes while you relax. Please wear comfortable clothing. Many commonly used acupuncture points are on the lower arms and legs so it is helpful if these areas are easily accessible.
If you are having massage it will be performed through light clothing, as it traditional with Acupressure massage so please wear light, loose and comfortable clothing.
Aim to have a light meal a little while before your appointment, it is preferable not to have treatment on a completely empty or full stomach. To get the maximum benefit from your treatment try if possible to completely relax for a few hours afterwards, or at least don’t do anything too energetic or stressful. It is advisable to refrain from drinking alcohol or stimulants such as coffee and energy drinks immediately before or after treatment.
